2011 saw Flames and Frames return to its Tunbridge Wells site for the Third time with a new improved layout. I was warmly greeted at the gates by members from Chopper Club Kent and Sussex who jointly host the show. They showed me where to park and where to set up camp. I just wish setting up my tent was as easy as finding the show ground. After wrestling with poles and material I decided it was time to take a wonder, and headed in the direction of the beer tent.
An addition to being surprised with the affordable entrance fee for the whole weekend, I was even more pleasantly surprised to find that a pint was a lot cheaper here then in a pub, which is not normally the case at many other shows.
I was spoilt for choice for food ranging from burgers to kebabs. After an excellent burger, I had a look around the many trade stands that were at this years show. There were bands in the main marquee, that played well into the night keeping the party atmosphere going. Everyone enjoying the start of a great weekend and a chance to let their hair down.
Armed with a Flames and Frames t-shirt I purchased from the NCC support stall the night before, I was ready to start my second day of the show. I grabbed an egg and bacon breakfast roll and cup of tea and sat down to enjoy the morning sunshine. The day passed with admiring the outstanding customised bikes and trikes that the guys from the Chopper Club have created. There were some inspiring original designs and aspects to all the bikes and some paint work that was out of this world. The passion of this club is definitely shown in their vehicles.
No show should be without an ice cream van, which I gladly sampled, it would be rude not to! I later washed this down with a couple more pints as I watched another night of great entertainment from the selection of bands.
Sunday started with a roar, from engines being started as the show field soon started to fill up with a wide range of bikes, trikes, classic cars, hot rods and scooters. The attendance was higher than ever, with bikes spilling out around the perimeter of the arena.
The prize-giving took place, with each winner riding or driving (depending upon their vehicle) up to receive their awards from NCC KENT & SUSSEX With that, another excellent Flames & Frames drew to a close, but not before I got to collect my prize from my winning raffle ticket. Thanks to all the Kent and Sussex Chopper Club members who somehow manage to make this show bigger and better every year. |
